Haiku

This week, we've been writing some haiku. Take a look at the examples here. Do they follow the right pattern?

Ryan
The loud long cool noise
The storm sounds extremely loud
Extraordinary

Alex
Peaceful sea big waves
Small boat with two children
Bright moon shining on the boat

Mia
The storm was gloomy,
The waves splashed against a rock,
And the noise was loud.

Ruby
The thunder was loud,
Big flashing lightning was bright,
Huge waves are crashing.

Grace
Huge waves dancing fast
Loud sea swallowing the bout
Huge sea glistening

Luke
The blue crashing waves,
Climbing over the small boat,
In the scary sea.

Flags Containing the Union Flag

🇧🇲 🇰🇾 🇹🇻 🇬🇧

Around the world, there are a number of flags that contain a Union Flag on them. Why? Not all the reasons are the same...

Using an iPad device, Morgan and Amelie turned on the emoji keyboard, looked for a flag containing a Union Flag and then tried to find out more about that country. Here's what they have found so far:

Can you tell us anything about other flags, the countries they represent and why the flag looks like it does?

Our Year Five #GE2017 #MockElection

Today is the 2017 General Election Day. Today, Year Five spent the day learning about the process of electing a government.

In Year Five, we have four classes. Each class took on the name of a political party: Vision, Transform, Tomorrow and Future. They chose what ministries their party would have and who would be the minister for that ministry.

Next, each ministry, lead by their minister, wrote their part of the manifesto.

We all sat and listened to each party deliver their manifesto.

After that, each child visited the Polling Station to cast their vote.

We had children responsible for counting the votes. The results were as follows...

5DA/LM - 10.7%
5BH - 27.7%
5SF - 40.2%
5AC - 21.4%
Spoiled Ballots - 0.9%

We hope it was useful in learning about the General Election.
