Raising Aspirations and Empowering Children – Primary Futures Virtual Showcase

Today, Year Five joined a Future Me event arranged by Primary Futures. Our four Year Five classes joined classes from other schools, the Primary Futures organisers and three volunteers.

We began with welcomes and introductions. Following this, the children asked the volunteers questions about their jobs and then tried to guess what the volunteers' jobs might be.

Then, came the 'Big Reveal', where the volunteers announced their jobs and talked a little about them as a junior school child, their early career, steps they've taken and their current roles.

The three volunteers were: Rachel de Souza - Children's Commissioner for England, Kate Ball - Founder and Director of Mini First Aid and James Williams - Associate Director at Watford Palace Theatre. We benefited from hearing about their experiences and the gravitas of their current employment.

Diwali Talk

This week, 5EV have been studying Diwali. To help us with our R.E. lesson, a girl in the class made a presentation telling us how her family celebrates Diwali. She told us what food they eat (Biryani, Idli, Dosa, Samba, Gulab and Jamun) and what they wear.

She showed us all her beautiful dresses and trousers that she wore when she was little. They had golden sparkles and bright colours. She also told us what Diwali meant and is: it is a Festival of Light. It stands for light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.

As well as helping us, she also managed to complete some Future Me pledges.
