In Year Five, the pupils (and some adults) have been thinking about their future selves...
Welcome to the Year Five website. On this website, we will be sharing examples of our children's work. This page is a workshop containing examples of learning in action. The work will not be the children's 'final draft’.

Flags Containing the Union Flag
🇧🇲 🇰🇾 🇹🇻 🇬🇧
Around the world, there are a number of flags that contain a Union Flag on them. Why? Not all the reasons are the same...
Using an iPad device, Morgan and Amelie turned on the emoji keyboard, looked for a flag containing a Union Flag and then tried to find out more about that country. Here's what they have found so far:
Can you tell us anything about other flags, the countries they represent and why the flag looks like it does?

Our Year Five #GE2017 #MockElection
Today is the 2017 General Election Day. Today, Year Five spent the day learning about the process of electing a government.
In Year Five, we have four classes. Each class took on the name of a political party: Vision, Transform, Tomorrow and Future. They chose what ministries their party would have and who would be the minister for that ministry.
Next, each ministry, lead by their minister, wrote their part of the manifesto.
We all sat and listened to each party deliver their manifesto.
After that, each child visited the Polling Station to cast their vote.
We had children responsible for counting the votes. The results were as follows...Votes have been tallied and Yr 5 have a winner in their election. Congratulations to 5SF: The Tomorrow Party with 40% of the vote #GE2017— Crosshall Junior Sch (@CrosshallJunior) 9 June 2017
5DA/LM - 10.7%
5BH - 27.7%
5SF - 40.2%
5AC - 21.4%
Spoiled Ballots - 0.9%
We hope it was useful in learning about the General Election.

How to Make a Moving Toy
Equipment
- cardboard box
- camshaft ( x1)
- bench hook
- guider
- followers
- background
- foreground
- dowelling ( as many sticks as needed )
- hacksaw
- character
- glue gun
- laminating pouches
- laminator
- Firstly, think of the design you are doing: think about the person who it is for and think of what they like.
- Secondly, construct the box and glue gun the back flaps shut.
- After that measure and cut ( with the hacksaw and bench hook ) the doweling for the camshaft (16 cm ), followers ( any reasonable size ) and the handle ( 5-6 cm ).
- When the doweling has been cut to the right sizes choose your cam (I chose an egg-shaped one).
- Next, to create the background, foreground and character, printing or painting is fine ( if printed make sure the picture is not too blurry and make sure it is free for printing ). If the character is going to spin around, you need to print the it twice (once as a mirror image) so you can see it both ways.
- Before sticking on the background, foreground and character, gluing the parts of your box together is VITAL !! (You must stick the handle, cam and doweling together inside the box).
- Then you need to stick on your background and foreground to the box. Stick the character onto the follower.
- Congratulations !!! Have fun and enjoy playing with the fantastic toy made by you !!!!!!
