Christmas is coming!

This has been a very exciting week in Year Five.  In maths, we used Number Link boards to help us apply our knowledge of the 1-12 times tables to harder times tables (like the 0.04 times table, or the 7000 time table).

On Wednesday, we had a great time hunting for our Pokémon non-chronological reports in the playground.  All our work can be read on our class blogs:

5EV:   http://5evwonderwall.home.blog/
5MH:  http://5mhmasterwriters.100wc.net/
5SF:    http://5sfcjs.edublogs.org/

Some people even managed to get to be a Level Five Pokémon trainer because they found every single one.

The Boat Race tutorial
We have been working hard to finish our Scratch games, taking some time to try out the Boat Race Tutorial on the Code Club website to help us with our coding.  We also explored what life would be like as a mountain climber by creating our own short play or mime about a famous expedition.

On Friday, it was Christmas Decoration Day!  It was really good fun talking and writing about Christmas adverts, solving maths puzzles about Santa's stocking and making a range of decorations for the classroom.  The best bit was getting to wear our Christmas jumpers and listen to Christmas songs while we worked.

This Week In Year Five

This Week In Year Five

In Year Five this week, we have been doing a lot of fun things. In English, we designed our very own Pokémon, leading to writing a non-chronological report about our Pokémon.  We can’t wait until the Pokémon Go event!

In maths, we started learning about statistics. We looked at how to read and create our own bar graphs and line graphs, and we solved some tricky Barvember problems with help from the bar model.

We carried on creating our games in computing, and learnt some fascinating facts about mountains and volcanoes in geography.  5AC and 5EV also had their last yoga lesson.  This was fantastic, but we’re sad the lessons are over.  We ended the week by thinking about how we can be kinder to one another.

We had a lot of fun!

Nearly Half Term!

This week in Year 5 we have done so many exciting things like writing about ‘The Piano’ and 5SF made clay pots inspired by Kate Malone. We also did fun things in P.E like yoga, netball and football. We did missing number problems in maths. We learnt some very interesting facts in geography, PSHE and history.

An Arty, Maths-Filled Week

On Monday morning, Year Five were completing tests to show what we know. We completed a spelling test, a maths reasoning paper and a grammar and punctuation paper.

Some classes were making coil pots and needed to bring in an inspirational object to make them. The artist that inspired us to make the pots is Kate Malone.

We also did some fun maths about adding prices and working out the price of a families holiday as well as adding up prices for customers at TGI Friday’s. We were also learning about voice overs and different sentence types so we watched a no-speaking piano piece. Different classes were doing different P.E lessons such as rugby, netball and football.

Hotseating

Busy exploring the thoughts and emotions of the main character in The Piano.  The questions have been crafted into a fingerprint to create a beautiful piece of work before being used to interrogate various members of the class.

West End in Schools

Our Visit from the West End
On Thursday 3rd October 2019, a visitor from the West End came and taught us about acting. We had fun performing scenes from the Shakespeare play Twelfth Night.

Dianna from West End in Schools came to visit us and we practised scenes from the play to perform for the other Year Five classes and the teachers.

It was fun but nerve wracking when we performed it to the rest of Year Five. 5MH performed freeze frames, 5AC performed Malvolio being bullied by Feste, 5SF performed Malvolio prancing in yellow tights with cross gartered laces and 5EV performed the big duel between Sir Andrew and Cesario (Viola).

We had tons of fun learning about acting and performing for our friends!

First Week in Year Five

This week in Year Five we've had loads of fun!  We sketched birds as pretty as a picture and had a competition to see which group could build the highest self-standing tower out of colourful Lego.  All the classes had fun trying out cup stacking, and we learnt how to make a curve out of straight lines.  We've also had fun reading Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.  Lastly, we did some GoNoodle, and that got us up and moving.  The first week in Year Five has been absolutely amazing!
