2016 Limerick Competition Winners

Once again, as part of our poetry studies, we’ve held a Limerick competition. We had many excellent entries and it was difficult to choose winners. Below are the four winners for 2016. If you’d like to leave them a comment about their work, please do. These poems will be performed by all the Year Five children as part of the 2016 Be an Author Week Assembly.

There once was a man who loved kippers,
Who also enjoyed velvet slippers,
"How can I combine,
These two loves of mine?
I'll stick them as one to make flippers!"
Nyahleh S.

There was an old man from Eaton Socon,
He found out both his legs were broken,
He slid on his bum,
Until it was numb,
While waiting for the doctor's to open.
Tom C.

There once was a little old sow,
Who was very afraid of the plough,
The farmer was shocked,
To find she was locked,
In the barn with the highland cow.
Adam W.

There was a girl from Hail Weston,
Who said every word as a question,
Who? what? when?
Can we do it again?
So her family moved to Preston.
Chloe B.

We also wanted to recognise these poems, which were written by the twins we have in Year Five:

The thing about being a twin,
Is that we both are desperate to win,
I get in a tizzy,
Competing with Izzy,
Our arguments make such a din!
Amelia F.

The thing about being a twin,
Is that we are both desperate to win,
I get in a stew,
Competing with a ‘Moo’,
Our arguments make such a din!
Izzy F.

  1. Limericks are not easy to write but you've made real efforts with these and I enjoyed them all. Well done.
