Spring Term Home Learning Information for Year Five

This term, the home learning expectations are as follows:

Each week, there will be  either a written or online (TTRs/MyMaths) task set. These will link to End of Key Stage Expectations for arithmetic or reasoning. (20 minutes)

Weekly, we will set a grammar and punctuation activity to consolidate our work in class. (20 minutes)

In school, we have a weekly focus on learning and practising  a spelling rule. A list of spellings to learn that follow the week's rule will be provided. (20 minutes) Class teachers will let their class know the day of the week spelling tests will take place.

Children should read on a daily basis. Renaissance Home Connect enables parents to see information about your child's progress within Accelerated Reader.

Home learning will be set on a Thursday and will be due in the following Tuesday. Home learning will restart tomorrow (09/01/20). 

 

Anyone unable to access the internet at home can do so during a Friday or Monday lunchtime in school.

Letters to Year Four Pupils

Last week, the pupils' Home Learning was to write a letter about their year in Year Five. They were asked to be creative. Today, we will give these to the Year Four pupils when they come to meet their new teacher. We're very impressed!

As always, there will be no Home Learning to complete during the half term break. 

On Wednesday 4th July, children will meet their Year Four teacher for next year and the preparation work set that day will replace home learning for the final weeks of the year. 

Spelling tests will take place in the same way they did during the previous terms.

Old, Smelly Skunk

Natalie wrote the following and asked if it could be shared with the world...

There was a scorching day in Africa. A grey elephant was drinking water from a large round lake. In the jungle, the mighty jungle the lion roared the parrot squawked and a monkey swung from tree to tree. The only animal that hadn’t been seen for centuries was the old smelly skunk. He was last seen 20 years ago. Old smelly skunk had gone into his cave after a very bad accident. This accident happened a long time ago and the old smelly skunk didn’t want to talk about it. I’ll tell you about the accident. When he was younger, old smelly skunk was a jungle champion for diving. On the 23rd of May 1998, all of the jungle divers went to the magic waterfall. They called it the magic waterfall because that is were all of the jungle champions have their diving final. The old smelly skunk was a world champion. He was the first animal to dive. No-one had noticed but there was a evil animal in the crowd. It was wizard lizard! Wizard lizard wanted to become king of the jungle. But the problem was that the old smelly skunk was already the king. Just before the smelly skunk dived off the diving board wizard lizard jumped out of the crowd and pushed the old smelly skunk off the edge. Wizard lizard laughed with glee! Old smelly skunk hit the edge of the waterfall but managed to cling on. After that accident he broke his leg and didn’t know weather anyone was going to laugh at him. That is why he never came out of his cave. Wizard lizard died ten years later and not a single animal went to his funeral. And that is the story of old smelly skunk.

Letters to Y4 Pupils

Tomorrow, we welcome next year's Year Five into our classrooms for a couple of hours. Part of that time will be reading letters. Those letters have all been written by the current Year Five pupils. Charlotte's Independance

Last week, Charlotte handed in her English home learning a day before it had been set. Here's what she did: she logged into her Google Drive account and found that the home learning task had already been uploaded. She read the task and decided she needed a P.T.E. to support her writing. So, she went back to Google Drive and downloaded a copy of the relevant P.T.E. She then completed the task and emailed it to he teacher. We were very impressed with her independent learning. Below is the explanation she wrote:
