Year Five: December 2023

Another busy month in Year Five!
A brief dip into descriptive writing...

...before filming, editing and screening our anti-bullying play scripts.

There were exciting ends to our space and forces topics in science with the research, building and testing of rockets and bridges.

We looked at the everyday life of the Anglo Saxons and constructed a Lego timeline of streets through time from the Stone Age to modern day:

Stone Age

Romans

Anglo Saxons and Vikings

Modern Day

Now adept at all things Google Drawings, we perfected our vector drawing skills.

Grace

Antonia

There was lots of music, both regular lessons and rehearsals for the Christmas carol concert, and the grand finale of indoor P.E. was the performance of space dances, the choreography of each group showing great progress and creativity.

What an amazing first term in Year Five!  Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  See you in 2024!

National Space Centre Visit

Year Five had a fabulous day expanding their understanding of space, the solar system and the space race with a visit to the National Space Centre this week.  They completed research about the different planets for their persuasive writing, tested out all manner of fun activities to enhance their science knowledge and watched a brilliant video all about getting to, living in and returning from space.

Space-themed Codealong

Some Year Five children joined in with Code Club's Space-themed Codealong as part of World Space Week 2022.

We joined the live session via Google Meet and were able to code, hear some space facts and share our Scratch projects once they were complete.

The examples below were created by Amelia, Beau and Imogen.

Planet Distances

To kick start our space learning, we ventured outside to measure the distance between the planets. Can you see Neptune right at the back??
