2017 Limerick Competition Winners

Once again, as part of our poetry studies, we’ve held a Limerick competition. We had many excellent entries and it was difficult to choose winners.

I hate my auntie shopping,
That is why I ended up hopping.
I cried and lied,
And, so hard I tried.
That's why I feel like popping!
Morgan C

Two aliens came from the moon,
So they could write an alien tune.
It was dreadful at first.
Then they wrote a new verse,
and it hit the top ten in June!
Millie & Kitty

There were once two crafty looters,
Who tried to steal Crosshall’s computers,
They made too much sound,
And got chased into the playground,
Where they were run over by kids on their scooters.
Thomas B

There once was a puppy called Flosie,
Who became rather naughty and bossy.
She wanted a stick,
And jumped up real quick,
Licked my nose and made it all glossy.

2016 Limerick Competition Winners

Once again, as part of our poetry studies, we’ve held a Limerick competition. We had many excellent entries and it was difficult to choose winners. Below are the four winners for 2016. If you’d like to leave them a comment about their work, please do. These poems will be performed by all the Year Five children as part of the 2016 Be an Author Week Assembly.

There once was a man who loved kippers,
Who also enjoyed velvet slippers,
"How can I combine,
These two loves of mine?
I'll stick them as one to make flippers!"
Nyahleh S.

There was an old man from Eaton Socon,
He found out both his legs were broken,
He slid on his bum,
Until it was numb,
While waiting for the doctor's to open.
Tom C.

There once was a little old sow,
Who was very afraid of the plough,
The farmer was shocked,
To find she was locked,
In the barn with the highland cow.
Adam W.

There was a girl from Hail Weston,
Who said every word as a question,
Who? what? when?
Can we do it again?
So her family moved to Preston.
Chloe B.

We also wanted to recognise these poems, which were written by the twins we have in Year Five:

The thing about being a twin,
Is that we both are desperate to win,
I get in a tizzy,
Competing with Izzy,
Our arguments make such a din!
Amelia F.

The thing about being a twin,
Is that we are both desperate to win,
I get in a stew,
Competing with a ‘Moo’,
Our arguments make such a din!

Limerick Competition

Last week, we asked for Limericks to be written as part of the children's home learning. Here are some of the best:

There once was a young boy called Tim,
Who went to the St. Neots gym,
He worked and worked,
Until his muscles hurt,
And his legs were more fatter than thin.
Niamh L

Once there were two girls called Lucy and Sophia,
Who came up with a brilliant idea,
They thought it would be fun,
To go for a run,
And they haven't been seen for a year!
Emmeline T

There once was a missing Jaffa Cake,
And finding it gave everyone back-ache,
My brother spied it,
When I was trying to find it,
And everyone thought it a big mistake.
Lucy J

There once was a teacher called Murphy,
Whose dance moves were pure choreography,
He jumped and he jived,
But got shook up inside,
And from then on only taught geography.
Emma S

This is just a small selection of the excellent poems that were written. Well done to all who wrote one.
