Year Five Visit to The National Space Centre

Below are some recounts about our visit to the National Space Centre.

Oscar:

Year Five went to the space centre in Leicester on Friday to learn more about space. As we boarded the long dreaded trip on the coach I got very excited and started to do some doodles.When we arrived we saw what looked like a giant, grey, blown up egg but, it was actually made out of plastic. When we entered I had already learnt something... what the space centre looked like!
Firstly we watched a short film about being a spaceman and what you had to do like Excersising two and a half hours a day to not loose muscle. I felt very sorry for “Chad” he got tested on for all of the experiments.
Next, we walked up some stairs and there were three floors and I enjoyed the second floor the most with the tiny space rocket over all there were one hundred and forty four stairs.
Then we came down in the lift , got our bags, and had our lunch. (I was starving.) I had a school lunch with two tuna sandwiches, some popcorn, a banana, a cookie and a carton of orange juice.
After that, we were aloud to go where ever we wanted (In a certain area) I found a dark room with some stars in a cabinet, it was very interesting.
Then we all got called in to board the coach again for the long, boring, dreaded journey.
I loved the space man video , it sometimes went above you which was different to any other film I had seen. The worst bit was the long , dreaded , coach journey. In the future I would bring drawing paper and drawing pens to help pass the time.

Last Friday, Year Five children went to the space centre in Leicester , as they were learning about space. After the long coach journey from Crosshall to Leicester we arrived at the space centre. We walked to the entrance; As we came through the doors, it was very crowded and there were a lot of schools. Then we had a look at all the space facts and games as we had to wait to go to the 4D cinema.
Finally,it was our turn for the 4D cinema . We sat on our seats suddenly the lights went out. On the ceiling we saw how astronauts felt before they went to space,We were taken on a journey through the human body. And learnt a lot about astronauts and how they feel.
Eventually,it was time to explore more. We headed towards a huge rocket as tall as the building. Everybody gazed as it was huge. First, we visited the bottom and worked our way up, learning facts on the way.
Once we had lunch , we went to see the rest of the facts before going home. There was lots of different rooms and interactive games to play.
After a long day, we walked to the coach ready to go home the coach journey back was really loud and it gave me and Hannah a head ache.When we got back our parents were waiting for us.
Although the space centre was intresting , felt like it is not something I enjoy.
The best part was probably going in the planetarium as it was cool and different and its something I haven’t experienced before. The worst part was probably climbing up the rocket as I am scared of heights and I didn’t want to look down.
I learned a lot about space , whereas before I didn’t know a lot and I came home with lots of new facts that I could tell my family about.But most of the rooms are for younger children that we found boring but other parts were fun for our age but most stuff were for older children.

On Friday 11th March, year five went to the National Space Centre in Leicester, to learn lots more about space and our planet(Earth).
First of all, we got to school then got on the coaches(there were 3 of them). It took about 1 and a half hours to get there. Once we got there, we went to the toilet then had to wait in a long line for about 20 minutes before we went into the planetarium and watched a short film called Astronaut.
Next, we went into the rocket tower to see the rockets(there were two of them) there was real moon rock and lots lots more! To get up to the top we had to go up one hundred and fourteen steps! After we finish looking around in the tower we had to go down a glass elevator! Then we finally got to have lunch we had are lunch at about 1:00(I was starving!)
Then went outside, then into another room so we could have our lunch. While we were having lunch, we started to do the PTE.
After lunch, we went outside, then inside again so we could look around some more. Then while we were downstairs, we looked at some information about a lot of planets. There was this pretend black hole thingy were you tried to stop balls from disappearing.(The balls represented the planets from getting sucked into a blackhole).
Finally, we went to the toilet then got on the coach. It took another 1 and a half hours to get home. We got back to school at about 5 o’clock.
The best bit was seeing the rocket tower and going inside it. The worst part was when we saw the movie because some of it makes you a bit queasy.

Mya:

Last Friday, Year Five went on an amazing, out-of-this-world trip to the National Space Centre to learn all about the planets in our Solar System.
The first thing we did was go into an enormous 4D planetarium to watch a film all about the things you need to know when in space. The film covered all of the walls and ceiling. It was really cool! Next, it was time to explore the facts area, where there were plenty of exciting and fun activities to do as well. The best activity I did was probably doing the stone rubbing of a moon buggy.
We went up in glass lift to see two huge rockets. I thought the were both really interesting.
The best part was watching the film in the planetarium, the worst part was walking up the stairs to the rockets, because we were climbing for so long.
Despite it being huge, The Space Centre was very interesting and I recommend going there.
I learned a lot of things, and I came home with many new facts.
The only thing I didn’t like, was how I thought we didn’t do enough things. I think they need more games or places for children aged 9/10 to go.

100 WC Showcase Week 9

 POW! That was the super hero bolt dashing past on a crime fighting mission. The CF (crime fighters) received an anonymous message that said someone was trying to burn down the Empire State Building. They had dispatched the most trustworthy superhero Bolt (who also happened to be the fastest superhero hence the name) to investigate. As soon as he got there he gasped, “Wow people that’s a mighty big fire you’ve got here”. Suddenly a figure emerged from the smoke, his name is the Smoker. Bolt socked him in the jaw and knocked him out. The fire raged until a rain cloud put it all out.

 

 

Mother's Day

The gas dancer is a green swimming, monkey that is likely to be extinct tomorrow. It lives in the Amazon Jungle, swings from trees and eats platypuses for breakfast, beetles for lunch and squirrel tails for dinner. Tomorrow the animal will be no more so I have composed a song for it.
O little gas dancer,
Your body will decay,
O little gas dancer,
You won't be able to play.
I am very sad that I won't be able to see my tail eater friends again.

Be an Author Week 2016

The week beginning 8th February 2016 was our annual Be an Author Week. In fact, the week had begun slightly early, because on the previous Friday, we enjoyed an entertaining visit from James Carter. In the build-up to Be an Author Week, the children had carried out, over two weeks, some research at home into China: its culture, people and place names as well as what role dragons take in Chinese stories. This research was vital in enabling the children to make a start on their stories. 

At the start of the week, the children planned out their story. The teachers read some Chinese stories to give the children some ideas of what to include in their work. We also had a useful Tai Chi session, learned some Chinese language, had a go at using the Chinese number system, saw some food and undertook some art. All of this was then used by the children in their story writing. By Friday of the week, we had stories from all the children that they can be rightly proud of. Depending on how the class undertook their work, these stories will now be available for the children to read either in their classrooms, online or both. Finally, the costumes worn on the Friday were fantastic and the year group looked very colourful.

Me-Maw Me-Maw! The fire fighters rushed down the streets of St. Neots towards the fire. A woman shouted in the building, they had to get there before it was to late... She screamed "There are children in here, help help". The fire brigade wasted no time. They sprang into action, lifting children away one by one. Every minute the fire grew ever closer, surrounding the screaming family. The brigade unleashed their secret, they had wings. They flew up to the family lifting the frightened couple to safety. The fire gulped the remainder of the building and collapsed. "thank you for saving us,"cried the woman.
