Space Art Preparation Work

As part of our autumn term theme around space, the pupils have been completing a range of art-related tasks in the build-up to their final 'space art' pieces inspired by the artist Emma Lindstrom.

They have explored shape, colour, light and shade, and the examples below are from their observational drawings of planets in our solar system.  The pupils tested out a range of media and techniques both within and between the various images.

Creating Vector Drawings

This afternoon, we have begun creating our own vector drawings.
In this lesson, we identified the shapes that are used to make vector drawings. We now know that each element of a vector drawing is called an 'object'. Then we created our own vector drawings, by duplicating objects to save time. Some examples of our work can be found below.

Tag Rugby Tournament!

We had a rugby tournament between 5MM and 5MH, and 5DA/LM and 5AC... This was enjoyed by everyone, and was a great opportunity to demonstrate skills learned in the Autumn term.

Raising Aspirations and Empowering Children – Primary Futures Virtual Showcase

Today, Year Five joined a Future Me event arranged by Primary Futures. Our four Year Five classes joined classes from other schools, the Primary Futures organisers and three volunteers.
We began with welcomes and introductions. Following this, the children asked the volunteers questions about their jobs and then tried to guess what the volunteers' jobs might be.

Then, came the 'Big Reveal', where the volunteers announced their jobs and talked a little about them as a junior school child, their early career, steps they've taken and their current roles.
The three volunteers were: Rachel de Souza - Children's Commissioner for England, Kate Ball - Founder and Director of Mini First Aid and James Williams - Associate Director at Watford Palace Theatre. We benefited from hearing about their experiences and the gravitas of their current employment.
A recording of part of the session can be found below:

Space-themed Codealong

Some Year Five children joined in with Code Club's Space-themed Codealong as part of World Space Week 2022.

We joined the live session via Google Meet and were able to code, hear some space facts and share our Scratch projects once they were complete.

The examples below were created by Amelia, Beau and Imogen.
